On October 11, 2017, the special fund construction project evaluation conference of  high level Science and Engineering University of the CSE Department was held in the conference room 201 of the Administrative Building in SUSTech. President Chen Shiyi, representative of the leaders’ group of special funds for high-level science and technology universities, including members of the special fund construction evaluation team, members of the Construction Management Committee of the high level science and Technology University of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Yao Xin, head of CSE Department, participated in the assessment meeting. Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences,  Foreign Academician of Royal Academy of Engineering , Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Liaison Office, former vice Dean of Chinese Academy of Sciences Tan Tieniu was invited as a representative of external experts committee attending the meeting. The assessment meeting was presided over by Wang Susheng, Director of the Department of Planning and Development.

Yao Xin, the director of the CSE Department, firstly reported on the special fund construction project of the high-level science and Engineering Universities. He reported the construction goal, construction process, construction effect and main experiences from aspects of teachers’ introduction, discipline construction, scientific research achievements, transformation of technological achievements, and personnel training, explained the distribution of budget and usage of special funds. At the same time, he mentioned some of the challenges and current solutions during the process of construction.

After listening to the reports on the progress of the special fund construction projects of CSE Department, participating leaders, members and experts from the assessment teams discussed and exchanged the ideas towards core issues.

Academician Tan Tieniu said at the meeting, SUSTech CSE Department roots in the city of science and innovation—Shenzhen, should make full use of the advantages of resources and background of Shenzhen, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Academician Tan also stressed that the CSE Department should take the initiative to seek its own development orientation, focus on the "three industries, one area”, namely the manufacturing industry, financial industry, service industry, combing with Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to seize the high platform of intelligence science and technology research.

President Chen Shiyi summed up the meeting, first he spoke highly of the remarkable achievements which CSE Department made during the past year, and then put forward some practical proposals for reports made in the meeting, such as holding international academic activities to improve the influence, strengthening the department structure construction, enhancing the multi channels of recruiting teachers.
