The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in 2016. At the beginning, research of artificial intelligence and computational intelligence leaded by Professor Xin Yao, the ex-chairman of IEEE CIS, IEEE Fellow Professor Shi Yuhui, as well as IEEE Fellow Professor Hisao Ishibuchi, editor-in-chief of “ IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine” has become one of the most important research areas in the Department of CSE. Computational Intelligence, as one important domain in artificial intelligence, is designed and enlightened by both nature's and human wisdom. With the advancement of technology, traditional algorithm cannot work out the sophisticated equation in a short time. Therefore, in order to strike for a balance between time and accuracy, computer scientists are inspired by biology, physics, neurosciences and psychology and put forward compute intelligent algorithm. IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (IEEE CIS) is founded in 2003 and it is a professional society which focuses on the domain of intelligent computing by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Researchers from IEEE CIS devote themselves to “the theory, design and applied research of computing method enlightened by biology and linguistics.”IEEE CIS will award the scholars who made brilliant achievement on computational intelligence. Prof.Yuhui SHI[International talents, consolidating SUSTech's teaching and research on Computational Intelligence]It is reported that SUSTech possesses a number of experts in the field of computational intelligence. The department head, IEEE fellow, Prof. Yao Xin was the chairman of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society from 2014 to 2015. He also serves as the chief-editor of "IEEE transactions on evolutionary computation" from 2003 to 2008, whose journal enjoys 5.908 SCI impact factor in 2015. In addition, Prof. Yao won "IEEE transactions on evolutionary computation outstanding paper awards" many times. The department's chair professor, IEEE fellow, Prof.Yuhui Shi, was the initiator of the field of swarm intelligence, who now serves as an editor for international academic journals such as "Journal of swarm intelligence" etc. In Google scholar, Prof. Shi has five publications, each attracting more than 3000 citations, totaling 29699 citations in the literature. The department's chair professor, IEEE fellow, Prof. Hisao Ishibuchi now serves as the chief editor of "IEEE computational intelligence Magazine". He was the vice chairman of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society from 2010 to 2013, and ranked 2nd in H-index researcher ranking in computer science of Guide 2 research in January, 2017. Prof. Ke Tang is the vice chief editor of "IEEE computation intelligence Magazine", "IEEE transactions on evolutionary computation", and serves as a committee member in association of evolutionary computation of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and the association of emerging scientific technology. The department's adjunct professor, scholar of Peng Cheng, Xiaodong Li serves as the vice chief editor of "IEEE transactions on evolutionary computation", "swarm intelligence". He is also the vice chief chairman of "task force on multi-modal optimization in the association of IEEE intelligent computation. Salary and Benefits for recipients of the “Thousand Youth Talents Program”SUSTech provides generous remuneration to recipients of the “Thousand Youth Talents Program”as well as one of the best working and living conditions in the sector. In addition to national research funds (CNY 1-3 million) and personal income subsidies (CNY 500,000), Guangdong Province will support each “Thousand Youth Talent” additional research funding of CNY 500,000 and additional personal income subsidy of CNY 250,000. Furthermore, Shenzhen City will provide each “Thousand Youth Talent” further research funding of CNY 5 million and further personal income subsidy of CNY 2 million ( “Shenzhen peacock talent plan B” ). On top of all these supports from the central, Guangdong and Shenzhen governments, SUSTech will also provide research funding of CNY 1 million. In addition, SUSTech will also fund one PhD studentship per year to every faculty member. IX. About Department of Computer Science and EngineeringThe Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SUSTech was founded in 2016. It currently has 12 professors, all of whom hold doctoral degrees or have years of experience in overseas universities. Among them, two were elected into the 1000 Talents Program in China; three are IEEE fellows; one IET fellow. The department is expected to grow to 50 tenure track faculty members eventually, in addition to teaching-only professors and research-only professors.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosted a highly successful 2016 Computational Intelligence Forum (CIF'2016) at SUSTech on 27-28 October 2016. Eight research talks were given by five world leading researchers,include three from Germany, Japan and Singapore, and two from SUSTech itself.They include three current Editors-in-Chief, one former Editor-in-Chief and one.Associate editor of top international journals in computational intelligence.The topics covered include evolutionary computation, multi-objective optimisation, swarm intelligence, evolutionary multi-tasking, and ensemble learning. The Forum attracted not only staff members and students from different departments at SUSTech, but also external audience from industrialists in Shenzhen and researchers from other cities.The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SUSTech is a new andvibrant department. On the afternoon of September 9, SUSTech held 2016 Teachers’ Day Commendation Meeting to recognize receivers of 2016 Excellent Teaching Award, Outstanding Scientific Research Award, Excellent Tutor Award, Teaching Competition for Young Teachers Award and Public Service Award. With Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun as the chair, leaders of the university and all of its units, academicians as well as representatives of teaching and administrative staff attended the meeting.Council Chairperson of University Council Guo Yurong, and President Chen Shiyi presented awards to the winners of Excellent Teaching Award and winners of Excellent Tutor Award.Vice President Qin Zheng and Vice President Wu Chuanyue presented awards to the winners of Teaching Competition for Young Teachers Award.Vice President Tang Tao and Director of Office of Research Zhao Yusheng presented awards to the winners of Outstanding Scientific Research Award.Zhang Jin, Assistant Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, won the Excellent Teaching Award , the winners of Excellent Tutor Award and the winners of Teaching Competition for Young Teachers Award. Wang Qi, Assistant Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, won the winners of Excellent Tutor Award.President Chen Shiyi thanked all the teachers for their time and efforts, and sincerely wished all the teachers a happy Teachers’ Day. Chen stressed that as an emerging university, SUSTech should set high moral values and give top priority to all-round development of students.
