The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE, http://cse.sustc.edu.cn/en/) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was founded in 2016. As a young and ambitious CSE department in the heart of China's silicon valley --- Shenzhen, it has grown to 42 full-time professors in 2020, including tenured, tenure-track, research-only and teaching-only professors. Among them are three IEEE fellows and two (former) editors-in-chief of IEEE Transactions/journals and winners of prestigious international awards. Over 90% professors were recruited directly from outside mainland China. In the last four years, the Department has secured ~200 millions RMB (~28 millions USD) external grants. The Department plans to double its size in the next five years. The language of teaching at SUSTech is English.
