2023

  • In March 2023, SUSTech's discipline of Computer Science and Technology received an A rating in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) China Subject Ratings, ranking 10th to 18th nationally.

  • In May 2023, the Communist Party Committee of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established.

  • In July 2023, three undergraduate students from the Turing Class—Zhou Yifan, Zhou Jiayi, and Chen Luyao—won the championship trophy at the 2023 China Collegiate Programming Contest (CCPC) Women's Competition.

  • In July 2023, Professor Zhang Yinqian was selected as a "2023 National Youth Scientist" by China Youth Daily, an award that honors scientists contributing to national strength.

  • In October 2023, Professor Zhang Yinqian was awarded the 2023 CCF Young Computer Scientist Award by the China Computer Federation.

  • In December 2023, the undergraduate foundational course "Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis" was recognized as a 2023 Guangdong Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Course.


2024

  • In July 2024, the inaugural cohort of 28 students graduated from the Turing Class (Honors Program).

  • In September 2024, Professor Ke Tang assumed the role of the second Department Chair/Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

  • In September 2024, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering received approval from the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to establish a first-tier doctoral program in Computer Science and Technology (discipline code: 0812).

  • In January 2021, Professor Ke Tang was recognized as a Chair Professor in Artificial Intelligence by the Ministry of Education

  • In October 2021, with the release of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022, the Computer Science discipline at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) made its debut on the list, ranking 176-200 globally and 12th in Mainland China. Its International Outlook indicator ranked 2nd in Mainland China

  • In December 2021, the Huawei-SUSTech Trusted Intelligent Systems Innovation Laboratory was inaugurated




2022

  • In May 2022, the Computer Science discipline at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) entered the ESI global top 1%, according to Essential Science Indicators.

  • In June 2022, the undergraduate program in Computer Science and Technology was selected as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site.

  • In November 2022, Professor Ke Tang was elected as an IEEE Fellow for the class of 2023.

  • In December 2022, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was approved to establish its first national-level platform: the "Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base (111 Base) for Fundamental Theories and Technologies of Computational Intelligence", under the Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education's 111 Project.

2019

  • In March 2021, the General Party Branch of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established.

Joseph Sifakis, a Turing Award winner, was appointed as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in 2019 .

  • The undergraduate program in Intelligent Science and Technology received official approval in March.

2020

  • In January 2020, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Brain-inspired Intelligent Computation was approved.

  • In July 2020, the first cohort of 158 undergraduates, fully trained by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, graduated successfully.

  • In September 2020, the province's first Turing Honors Program was established, with its inaugural cohort of 13 freshmen enrolling.

2016

In May, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established, with Chair Professor Xin Yao serving as its Founding Chair/Department Head.

2017

  • In July, the first cohort of 16 undergraduates from the Computer Science and Technology program graduated.

  • In October, the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence was approved.
