Recently, Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission released the Shenzhen 2017 Innovative Environment Construction Project and approved the "Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence" led by Professor Yao Xin, Director of Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Southern University of Science and Technology.

This key laboratory focuses on a new generation of computing intelligence with low energy consumption and high reliability. It aims to provide related IT or software enterprises with low-power, lightweight, highly reliable and self-evolving computing intelligence techniques and provide technology assistance for Shenzhen in the field of intelligence innovation and industrial development.  

The Laboratory includes three IEEE Fellows as leader leaders, covering on the research areas of computing intelligence, software engineering, information security, service computing, etc, and having been obtained tremendous international advanced achievements on the area of neurocomputing, evolutionary computation, fuzzy system and so on. The team members have published more than 1,000 high-level academic papers (SCIs), which have been quoted for more than 100,000 times. They have won the IEEE CIS Evolutionary Computation Pioneer Award, the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award, the JSPS Research Award, IEEE CIS Outstanding Early Career Award, first prize of natural sciences of China Institute of Electronics (provincial level), second prize of Natural Science of Ministry of Education, and many of Best Paper Award in World class academic conferences.
