Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Department of Computer Science and Engineering  focuses on key areas aligned with the computer discipline in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, such as new-generation information technology and the digital economy. The department conducts scientific research primarily in three fields: artificial intelligence, computer application technology, and computer networks and security

The department has established several significant research platforms, including the "Computational Intelligence Fundamental Theory and Technology" Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Base (a "111" Base)  jointly supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education, as well as the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Brain-inspired Intelligent Computing

Over the past five years, the department has undertaken more than 200 research projects. These include major national initiatives such as the National Key R&D Program of China, Major Programs and Key Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Guangdong Provincial Keystone Projects. Additionally, several faculty members have been recognized as Highly Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevierand have been included in the list of the world's top 2% most-cited scientists.
