Wireless networking and mobile computing research center

Wireless networking and mobile computing research center founded in 2014, it is with Computer Science and Engineering Department in Southern University of Science and Technology. The main target of this center is to conduct world-class research on wireless and mobile network, smart sensing, localization and mobile computing, wearable device and mobile healthcare, network economics.

The research center is supported by National Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Science Foundation, and The innovation of science and Technology Commission of Shenzhen Municipality. The research area is as follows:

Ø Next-generation wireless networks: the design and optimization of media access control and scheduling protocol in 802.11n, 802.11ac, 802.11ah-based next-generation Wi-Fi network; Protocol design and network optimization of low power wide area network e.g. Lora and NB-IOT; spectrum sensing and dynamic spectrum access on unlicensed band for cognitive devices.

Ø Network economics: Basing on the economical theory , e.g. auction, matching and game theory, analyze the behavior and decision making of multiple selfish agents in networks to solve several critical network issues such as cooperation and investment decision making of wireless service providers, dynamic spectrum sharing and trading, incentive mechanisms in cooperative communication and networking, task allocation and incentive mechanism in crowd sourcing systems and etc.

Ø Smart sensing and mobile computing: exploiting various sensors in mobile devices to sense, transmit and compute in real time. It can be widely used in smart phones and wearable devices to implement various innovative applications such as localization, monitoring, context awareness and human computer interaction. We will focus on the issues on sensing, transmission, computing, security.

Ø Wearable device and mobile healthcare: the development of wearable device, non-contact device and wireless transmission techniques enables healthcare monitoring, health status analysis, health intervention and disease prediction, finally, comprehensive and personalized health monitoring is achieved. We will study the key algorithm and techniques in this area.

The research center has been working on the above areas for several years and published a series of research papers in top international conference and journals, e.g. IEEE INFOCOM、IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems、IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications、IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.
