The programme intends to recruit fully funded PhD candidates for joint training at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The programme for PhD candidates is 4 years，first year at UTS and later years at SUSTC. However, the candidates may spend longer periods (up to one more year) at UTS subject to the mutual agreement of SUSTech and UTS co-supervisors.  Candidates who have successfully completed all requirements of UTS PhD will obtain their PhD degrees from UTS. They will also obtain a formal study certificate from SUSTech.

Minimum Admission Requirements

A: Academic Records: GPA 3.3/4 or 82/100.

B: English level: TOEFL online test no less than 80 overall, with no less than 21 in writing; Or IELTS no less than total 6.0 with no less than 6.0 in writing; Or PTE Academic no less than 50 in any component; Or CAE no less than total 169. We are happy to accept the results from tests taken within last 2 years.

C: Have obtained a good Master’s degree or Bachelor's degree from an internationally recognized research university

Funding: UTS tuition fee will be waived by the UTS. The stipend will be no less than AUD 26,000 per annum during the PhD study period at UTS. While at SUSTech, students will be sponsored by "SUSTC High Level Science and Engineering Postgraduate Scholarships", which covers corresponding fees according to university's regulations.

Procedures for Application

An applicant is required to prepare application materials and submit the same in electronic format to Department of Computer Science and Engineering (csyzb@sustech.edu.cn). After preliminary selection by SUSTech and Department of CSE, the applicant will be interviewed jointly by SUSTech and UTS. If the joint interview is satisfactory, the applicant will be invited to complete the online application procedure from UTS, which will make the offer.

f. Scanned copy of transcript (Bearing the stamp of Dean’s Office of the university from which the applicant was graduated, or seal of personnel administration by which the applicant’s personal data is kept, any other seal shall be invalid)

g. Scanned copy of transcript indicating the grades of English Test (TOEFL/IETLS/ etc)

h. Scanned copy of ID Card

Authenticity and correctness of all supporting documents, including certificates of degrees/diploma, must be ensured, and the applicant who submits forged application materials will be binding to any consequence and willing disqualified immediately.

The deadline of 2017 admission is on April 7th, 2017.(In case of if it's not there yet, that we expect a successful applicant to have a first class honors degree, or MSc with Distinction, or their equivalent, from an internationally recognised university.)

c. Preliminary Assessment by SUSTech

The applicant may required to take a  written exam,or telephone interview by SUSTech supervisors.

d. Joint Interview

An applicant passed screening of application materials and preliminary exam (If arranged) may be jointly interviewed by SUSTech and UTS.

e. Official Online Application

An applicant passed joint interview will be invited to make the online application to UTS.
