The SUSTech Artificial Intelligence Institute (SAINT) aims to tackle the major needs of national and regional AI industry development. It aims at the AI problem of Shenzhen’s construction of a pioneering demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It makes full use of Shenzhen's advantages in AI industry, highly integrates the resources of SUSTech and world-class universities in AI, carries out original and disruptive innovations on the basic theories and methods of AI and strives to build a top AI research institution with global influence that integrates talents cultivation, scientific research, and knowledge transfer to industry. The institute is headed by Professor Yao Xin, the dean of the CSE of SUSTech, as the executive dean. The institute initially includes four research groups: AI and big data research group; smart health medical system group, autonomous unmanned system group, and smart city group.
