南方科技大学计算机科学与工程系程然助理教授的合作论文“Xingyi Zhang, Ye Tian, Ran Cheng*, Yaochu Jin. A decision variable clustering based evolutionary algorithm for large-scale many-objective optimization. IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, 2018, 22(1): 97-112.”荣获2021年度唯一的“IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation Outstanding Paper Award”，其中程然教授为论文通讯作者，截至2020年7月该论文Google Scholar引用152次。

IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation (IEEE TEVC) 是计算智能领域的国际顶级期刊。这是程然教授继2018年获得IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation Outstanding Paper Award（当年全球唯一）、2019年获得IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award（当年全球唯一）、2020年获得IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine Outstanding Paper Award（当年全球唯一）之后，连续第四年获得IEEE国际学术奖励。 

程然教授于2018年回国任教，组建了南方科技大学“演化机器智能课题组”(EMI Group, http://emi.sustech.edu.cn/)，专注于利用计算智能方法解决复杂学习、建模及优化问题，研究领域涉及演化计算、深度学习等。目前，课题组的主要研究获得国家自然基金委、工信部、华为海思等机构的资助，相关研究成果应用于宽体客机、AI芯片、智慧电网、材料基因等重要科学与工程领域。
